Frame with Glass no Picture
My parents moved to a smaller house about a year ago. When I was helping my mom unpack there was a large box that said "frame with glass no picture" on the outside of it. My mom said she was going to take it to Goodwill because it had been in that box through 3 moves over 35 years and had never been unpacked. Me being the sentimental type, I said I would take it.
Well, of course, the box sat in her garage until a couple of weeks ago. I finally loaded it up (with some encouragement from my mom!) and brought it home. It is a beautiful black frame with hand carved leaves all around the edges that are filled in with gold. The glass was also still in one piece. The glass looks antique and has that wavy appearance that glass has after sitting for years. The glass also had a ton of masking tape on it that the movers must have put on it when packing. The tape had been on there for 35 years and I was concerned about getting it off without breaking the glass.
I showed it to all my friends telling them the story. Everyone I showed it to was really impressed. I told them that I was going to find a picture of a lake to put in it and put it over the bed in my bedroom. I did not want to trust anyone with the frame or the glass. I just did not see myself taking it to a chain frame shop and leaving it with the minimum wage high school student in charge.
I searched the web to find the right picture. I remembered a poster I had while I was in high school and college. It was a poster of a water color done by Mary Doerr. http://www.imagesofaustin.com/austin_art.html (image name = no. 1 tower). I wanted to see if she had any other prints that I would be interested in. I went to her studio and found (image name = view from shep. mnt). It took me 2 hours to get all that tape off but I managed.
After all that talk I left the frame there - and the glass! Oh well. The people there seemed so knowledgeable and nice. They were so respectful of the frame and the glass. They told me how much they liked the frame and how cool the glass was. I left it there a week ago and they told me it would take about two weeks. I just can't wait to see it!
